As noted on the introductory materials on this blog, AAWOL exists to "gather evangelical Asian American women for leadership renewal and development." As I pondered what content to include, I realized that this blog can be a place for "cyber gathering" and, as such, a resource for leadership development.
"How?" you may ask.
As I mentioned in my previous post, AAWOL has been for me a place to explore the truth of what it means for Asian American women to serve in leadership. For many of us, the church professional pastoral leadership still has limited female representation. AAWOL, then, is a place where women can explore "truth" by sharing and dialoguing about the challenges of being women in ministry.
My colleagues or "sisters" (as we have been called because of the shared relationships as followers of Jesus Christ) desire this cyber gathering to provide leadership development insights. Our experiences are not simply presented to provide "voice", but to spur others like us to consider them, interact with what is presented, even dialogue with the writers. Leadership development happens by modeling and interactions to explore and execute course changes in a person's life. This process is also known as mentoring.
A loose definition of mentoring is learning from the experiences of others. The leadership experiences expressed in the blog are written to invite our audience to participate actively by commenting and responding to what is presented; this is the beginning of mentoring. We welcome confirmation if what we presented resonates in some way with you. If you disagree, the blog can be a means for contributors to receive mentoring, by learning from the readers. If commenting on-line is not your preference, we would invite you to connect with us by e-mail or phone. Our desire is that in the process of dialoguing, there is mutual learning and furthering of kingdom relationships.
Consider yourselves invited. Though we'd like you to follow the spiritual guide of "speaking the truth in love", we simply welcome your "truths."
